This does not mean to break the meaning of honesty and change it with the different one. Indeed, the honesty has esteemed meaning we can not only change, but also have to make as reference. This only wants to straighten out our wrong estimates about meaning of honesty.
The honesty issues always appear around realization of national exlamation (Indonesian: Ujian Nasional, UN) every year. However government affords to build honesty, it is never built. Every year, it has not been ‘UN with zero deceit’. This shows how bad the morality of our people is.
It is no success reached with deceit. The honesty is the first step to be successful. So, we have to look for ways about how to build honesty effectively. The failures of government effort so far motivate us to think it more and more. We have to get great ways. One of them, according to me, is understanding about the honesty itself. I see that many people have been missunderstanding the honesty’s work.
In UN case, we can show some works making honesty further to be reached. The great one is participating and coming of police in classes. On one side, it may be possitive. Because, the participating of police indicates that deceit is a violence or criminal act we has to be cut. But on the other side, it brings difficulties in building honesty over students in the class. The students feel like in a jail. Then this condition makes an anxiety among students. And, the anxiety motivates someone (student) to do everything illogical, and forget every important consideration. Indeed, the honesty can not be built effectively with this. Here is important question: why?
Honesty is actually something soft or feeling comes from human’s heart. It appears sometime, even everytime, as far as the human takes action. Its appear can not be forced, but saddenly and automatically. Of course, appearing something like this is very difficult. It takes ‘political will’ from someone himself and great effort continuously from everyone focussing on it.
The honesty is like love. Someone can not force someone else in love. Love comes from heart automatically, when it gets moment, without force. Police also can not force about love. This is same as honesty. The honesty can not be forced although by police as it has been appearing in realization of UN every year.
Honesty only can be “exploded” with exercise continuously. It takes long time indeed. It actually has to be begun since someone is still in early old; as early as possible.
Here there are two elements having important role. The first is parent or family. As far as we know, family is a place where a child was born and educated in early times. Imam Al-Ghazaly said that family is “tarbiyatul ula wal aula” (the first and most important education). In childish world, there is modelling theory. It means that child always imitates his parent as his model. Whatever the parent does it always reforms mind-set of the child. The good model of parent will make child’s act also good. Then when parent shows a model of honesty, it also will be imitated by child and will reform his mind-set.
The second is education in school. It is the second education for child after family. School is one of model of education structured. There is curriculum regulating everything in reaching the aim of the school. There are classes, teacher and matters. Children (students) begins to recognize new matters and experiances in their life adventure. Here, everything is possible. Building honesty can also be afforded. The good model of teacher and all academic people here is needed so much. Sometimes ago, we heared about education of anti-corruption. This is actually part of education in honesty.
Revitalizing Canteen of Honesty
Education of anti-corruption is one of governmet’s effort in building honesty. It is regulated in schools. Many ways were produced for maximalize it. The most fantastic and famous one is about concept of canteen of honesty (Indonesian: kantin kejujuran). The canteen is very unique and so different with canteen generally. It has no owner or seller. All students can buy everything by themselves: since they take something, pay, untill owe, they have to calculate by themselves. This fungtion of this canteen is to survey how high the honesty of studets is. Furthermore, it wants to dig student’s accountability deeply.
It was very fantastic. But, it can not ber heared now because collapse. This shows how bad thehonesty or accountability of students is. This condition had actually predicted before, but the government did not want to evaluate so that it can not be heared again. Our government was so lazy to do more in this. So, building honesty was non-sense.
According to my opinion, the idea of canteen of honesty is very important to aplicate more. There was no force, and make the honesty appeared by itself. It is suitable with the real meaning of honesty as we have written above. It is better than building honesty with participating of police in classes when UN is realizing. Forces in building honesty are not effective and can not stop producing “brilliant corruptor” on the future. Wallahu A’lam.
