Let me tell you about my young classmates to be, during this semester one. Actually I am at seventh semester, and because of some academic reasons, I should take some matters of semester one. This does not matter relying on two considerations. The first, I can repair my academic gain, and have an opportunity to evaluate my academic record. The second, I am really glad to have young friends here, who are funny, dynamic, proactive and give me fabulous mirror.
Sometimes, I feel as an oldest one here—and the fact shows it. Actually, I feel unwell with this condition. This makes me ashamed to show up my identity here, to speak, ask a question, and communicate more with young classmates. Suddenly, I have been more silent—yeah, I do not believe it as well. But, however, I strive to enjoy this and be nice with young friends. Fortunately, they are very welcome to me. Based on this condition and experience of studying at semester one, I write this: a brief experience with my very funny and confusing classmates.
It was on Tuesday, on 29th of August, exactly in Anthropology class, when we discussed about social differentiation. As usual in every week, there were some friends being presentators for a paper dealing with the theme determined before (social differentiation). First of all, the presentators delivered some important points of the paper and then provided time for questions from other students as audience. The forum, of course, was ruled by a moderator.
According to me, the explanation of the presentators, made the theme more complicated. It was too difficult to understand, I thought. This situation, as we always found it in almost every discussion of ours, then invited some strange question which had no deal with the theme. It was really funny for me. The next step, usually, the presentators looked very busy looking for right answer from the paper they held. This took long time. It might be a modus to spend the time or something else. I thought that the presentators did not understand well about the theme they delivered. It is easy to trace the truth of this conclusion. It meant based on the way they delivered a presentation. All of these made the discussion unproductive.
The funny thing else came from the audiences. They delivered their question seriously. They looked more interested in or focused on making complicated question than seeking more useful knowledge. They speak over even forget the time they have for speaking. They looked never satisfied for the answer of the presentators, so that they interrupted, clarified, disagreed, spoke up, more and more. My humble thinking, they tried to gain notice from the lecture and hoped to get point for their performances. Someone appeared to help the presentators answer the question. But, as we knew, he helped nothing because of heavy-head of question-maker. The next step, the helper and the question-maker debated out of moderator’s authority. The forum was unheld. The class was under attack!
The lecture, finally, comment jokingly: “The presentators and moderator may go home, because the forum does not need you. The forum cannot be held indeed!”
I had nothing to do noticing this. I tried to understand what happened. They are young students and still have new and big spirit to actualize themselves as much as they can and to do everything possible. This condition now may be not good and should be changed. But, let it stream down until the time comes to end it. It is natural for fresh graduate of senior high school to have great expectation. Once more, I am just silent, smile, and laugh.
This is my story, and how about yours?
